Start for freeOreos - milk's favorite cookie. But what about your preferences? Or more importantly, what about my preferences? That's what this taste test is all about. I'll be sampling and ranking 35 different Oreo varieties available in New York City.
The Classic Oreo
Let's start with the original - the classic Oreo cookie. It's a solid baseline, enjoyable but nothing too special. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.
Double Stuf Oreos
Moving on to Double Stuf, my preferred level of cream filling. The extra stuff definitely improves the experience. It gets an 8 out of 10 from me.
Mega Stuf Oreos
The Mega Stuf takes things even further with an irresponsible amount of cream. Interestingly, the filling seems fluffier and less dense than regular Oreos. While impressive, I'm not sure it's better than Double Stuf. It also gets an 8.
Gluten-Free Oreos
The gluten-free version is surprisingly good. There's a very slight difference in flavor, but it's barely noticeable. I'd give these a 7, same as the original.
Oreo Thins
These thin cookies have less of everything - less cookie and less cream. I find them less satisfying overall. They get a 6 from me.
Oreo Cakesters
These soft, cake-like Oreos are a big departure from the original. Unfortunately, I find the texture dry and the flavor artificial. They only get a 4.
Golden Oreos
The vanilla cookie version of Oreos is pleasant enough, but not as good as the chocolate original in my opinion. I'd give them a 6.
Chocolate Cream Oreos
These taste remarkably similar to regular Oreos. In a blind taste test, I could barely tell the difference. They get an 8 like Double Stuf.
Peanut Butter Oreos
As a chocolate and peanut butter lover, I really enjoy these. The peanut butter flavor is spot-on. Another 8 for these.
Toffee Crunch Oreos
These have an interesting butterscotch-like flavor and extra crunch from sugar crystals. I find them uniquely delicious, earning a 9 out of 10.
Birthday Cake Oreos
With a distinct vanilla frosting flavor and rainbow sprinkles, these really capture the essence of birthday cake. Another 9 out of 10 for these.
S'mores Oreos
While an interesting concept, these don't quite deliver on the s'mores flavor promise. They're a bit of a letdown, getting a 7.
Lemon Oreos
These have a light, refreshing lemon flavor. While pleasant, they stray a bit from the classic Oreo experience. I'd give them a 7.
Mint Creme Oreos
The mint chocolate combination works well here, reminiscent of mint chocolate chip ice cream. A solid 8 out of 10.
Oreo Cereal
While not exactly like eating Oreos for breakfast, this cereal is pretty tasty. It gets a 6 from me.
International Oreo Flavors
I also tried several international Oreo flavors, including:
- Green Tea Oreos (6/10)
- Yogurt Mint Oreos (4/10)
- Cheese Flavor Oreos (5/10)
- Matcha Fig Oreos (6/10)
- Strawberry Oreos (2/10)
- Rose Flavor Oreos (4/10)
- Peach Oolong Oreos (5/10)
- Mixed Berry Oreos (6/10)
- Peach Grape Oreos (0/10)
Custom Oreos
Finally, I tried the Oreo ID custom printed cookies. While novel, they're overpriced and not particularly impressive. They get a 6 for the interesting sprinkle texture.
Conclusion
After tasting 35 different Oreo varieties, my top picks are the Toffee Crunch and Birthday Cake flavors, both scoring 9 out of 10. These special flavors offer a perfect balance of classic Oreo taste with exciting new elements.
